Sustainability Goals
The UN's sustainability goals, which are achieved through our project:
Ensure a healthy life for all
Promoting sustainable industrialization and supporting innovation
Making cities and settlements, safe, resilient and sustainable
Measures to combat climate change and its effects
A total of 1,600 billion tons of carbon are stored in the Arctic permafrost. That is twice as much as is currently in the atmosphere and three times as much as is stored in all the world’s forests. If even a fraction of the soil continues to thaw, this will vehemently accelerate the greenhouse effect and consequently also global warming.
Protect and restore terrestrial ecosystems and promote their sustainable use
The natural ecosystem in the region is restored through the settlement of a wide variety of animals. The Pleistocene Park provides a protected habitat for the animals so that they can reproduce. This restores the original balance of the glacial steppe and, as a result, prevents the thawing process of the permafrost soils.
Global partnership for sustainable development
The expansion of the Pleistocene Park can only be secured through an international partnership. Financial resources are mobilized from a wide range of sectors and used for the benefit of sustainable development. In addition, the exchange of knowledge, expertise and research results is supported.
